According to the professor, recent reports in the international media describe the emergence of a new variant of the virus in seven adults and five children, living in the same geographical area of ​​southeastern France. At present, this variant (IHU or B.1.640.2) has not been detected in other countries, we have no official announcement from the French health authorities and it has not been designated as a variant under investigation (VOC) by the World Health Organization.
The first body detected was recently returned from a trip to Cameroon.
This is a man, vaccinated, who was tested somewhere in mid-November the next day after he had some mild respiratory symptoms. The variant was certified on 09/12/2021 and very soon after that the other 11 cases mentioned were confirmed.
The study deals with the characterization of the mutations and the variant and does not provide data on the clinical picture, and the symptoms of those who were certified to have contracted this variant. And to say also, the professor emphasizes, that all 12 of these samples were collected by the end of November.
