The moving average of Covid cases in Brazil had a jump in relation to the data that have been recorded. She reached 12,391 infections a day, up 318% from two weeks ago. This Wednesday alone (5), 27,578 cases of Covid were recorded in the country.
The country also recorded 133 deaths from the disease and, thus, the moving average of deaths reached 98 and remains stable (without variations greater than 15%). Since the beginning of the pandemic, 619,559 lives have been lost and 22,349,605 people have tested positive for Covid.
In the last days of 2021 and in the first days of 2022, the daily number of cases was already showing growth.
The increase in case records may be linked to several factors. One of them is the actual increase in contamination after the holidays. The growth was already alerted by experts at the end of last year, who also highlighted the arrival in the country of the extremely contagious omicron variant, which has been causing records of infections around the world.
The increase in positivity in tests for Covid (in general, percentage of positive tests in relation to tests carried out) has been reported in several places in the country.
It is also necessary to consider the possibility of an impact on the growth of cases derived from the damming of notifications during the holiday season and the hacker attack that affected the Ministry of Health’s systems for practically the entire month of December.
The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and publish the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.
Vaccination data against Covid-19 are also among those affected, in several states, by the attack on the ministry’s website. In any case, the information was at least partially updated in 13 states and the Federal District.
Brazil registered 725,166 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Wednesday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 41,950 first doses, 100,166 second doses. In addition, 2,771 single doses and 580,279 booster doses were recorded.
Bahia revised the number of second doses (-14,265) and single doses (-157) applied.
PiauĂ also revised part of its data and recorded -1,449 first doses.
In all, 161,500,131 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil — 139,191,062 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizer. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 143,810,302 people with both doses or with one dose of Janssen vaccine.
Thus, the country already has 75.71% of the population with the 1st dose and 67.42% of Brazilians with both doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 99.64% and 88.72%.
Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, experts say.
The initiative by the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro government (without a party), which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
