Theodoridou: Increased risk of diabetes in children with Covid – What is MISC syndrome

by

The need to vaccinate children and adolescents stressed the president of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou in today’s briefing of the Ministry of Health, as she said CDC studies showed that people under 18 who have coronavirus have an increased risk of developing diabetes, but also of a rare syndrome called MISC.

“The rare but real risk to children and adolescents of multisystemic and inflammatory disease MISC, an entity that occurs 2 to 6 weeks after illness, has been identified. According to a study from the CDC, two doses of the vaccine protect 91% of MISC syndrome. The study was conducted in the US and included 102 patients from 20 states. The mean age was 14 years and only 5% of them were vaccinated. The findings from a study in France are similar and it gathered children and adolescents from 41 ICUs “, said Ms. Theodoridou.

As he said, a study published a few days ago and concerning children 5-11 years old who were vaccinated with the low dose of 10 micrograms proves the safety, immunogenicity, but also the effectiveness of the vaccines.

Finally, the chair of the National Vaccination Committee said that a CDC study shows an increased number of diagnoses of diabetes in adolescents 30 days after coronavirus disease and added that the infection is an increased risk factor for diabetes and is launching the diagnosis of new cases.
