Moderna: Towards 2023 the unique combination coronavirus and flu vaccine

by

The single-dose vaccine that combines a booster dose of Covid-19 with its experimental flu vaccine will be available by autumn 2023, at least in some countries, based on the “best-case scenario,” its chief executive said Monday. company, Stefan Bancel.

“Our goal is to be able to have a single annual booster dose so that we do not have compliance issues when people do not want to do two to three doses a winter,” he told an online conference of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

At the same time, Moderna’s candidate vaccine against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus will enter clinical development in the coming weeks and the pharmaceutical industry expects to be able to communicate data to regulators around March, said Stefan Bancel.

“The preparation of the vaccine is completed … it is expected to enter the clinical trial stage in the coming weeks. “We hope that within the March timetable we will be able to share data with regulators to calculate the next steps,” Bancell said.

Earlier in January, the CEO of Moderna said that people may need a fourth dose in the fall of 2022, as the effectiveness of booster doses against the disease is likely to decline over the next few months.

However, some disease experts are skeptical about booster vaccination programs as to whether and how widely additional doses should be available, including the European Union drug regulator (Coreper), which has expressed doubts about the need for a fourth booster dose.
