Although the “Hard indicators” of the pandemic continue to be high with 23,608 deaths recorded in total since the start of the epidemic, the horrific losses in January as more than 2,710 patients died due to Covid-19, scientists hope that in February there will be a de-escalation.
On Tuesday however, the death toll from coronavirus was in the triple digits, as has been the case for many consecutive days, as the deaths of patients with Covid-19 reached 103, while 563 patients are treated by intubation.
At the same time, the scientific community is expressing its reservations about the grant 4th dose of vaccine against the coronavirus, as stated during the briefing on Tuesday, February 1, the emeritus professor of Pediatrics and chairman of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou.
“The former director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) argues that repeated vaccinations are not a viable long-term strategy, while in Israel, where the fourth dose has been started, cases have been reduced but there is still no evidence of efficacy in terms of treatment.” pointed out the chairwoman of the National Vaccination Committee.
At the same time, Ms. Theodoridou stressed that the WHO notes that increasing the installments will not be the solution to suspend the emergence of new executives. “The big bet is to make new vaccines that will stop the transmission of the virus,” he concluded.
The main symptoms of long covid and how long they last
Meanwhile, the British community has raised concerns in the scientific community, according to the president of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, a British study on long covid syndrome, which is caused by an inflammatory reaction and occurs 4 weeks after the person has a coronavirus infection.
Its main features are fatigue, inability to exercise, difficulty breathing, but also loss of smell and taste.
“Britain published a study on the frequency of long covid with self-reports and recorded 1,266,000 people, which corresponds to 2% of the population with pre-symptoms similar to long covid,” said Ms. Theodoridou.
The study included groups of all ages and in a percentage of 3% -12% of them there were long covid symptoms even after 12 weeks.
However, he noted, it seems that people who have been vaccinated with two doses are 50% less likely to have long covid syndrome.
As for Omicron 2, according to the data so far, it may be more contagious and may prevail, but it does not increase hospitalizations and deaths, said Ms. Theodoridou.
Themistocleous: The first doses of the Novavax vaccine on February 21 and the beginning of March the operation of vaccination centers
In the vaccination program The Novavax vaccine against Covid-19 will be added, as Greece is expected to receive 474,000 doses in February and March. The first receipt, 168,000 doses, is expected on February 21 and in certain parts of the country vaccination centers will operate from the beginning of March, according to what the general secretary of PHC, Marios Themistokleous said.
As he said, the 19,400,000 vaccinations were exceeded on Tuesday. More than 7,760,000 citizens have been vaccinated with one dose, ie 73.8% of the general population and 83.7% of the adult population. More than 7,330,000 citizens have completed their vaccination, which corresponds to 69.8% of the general population and 79.3% of the adult population.
Beneficiaries of a booster dose are 5,816,000 citizens, 80% of the completed vaccinations. Approximately 4,880,000 million vaccinations have already been carried out, 83.8% of the beneficiaries and 200,000 citizens have scheduled their appointment, 3.4%.
At the same time, he reminded that until February 7, those who have passed the seven months from the second dose or three months from the first dose with the single-dose vaccine should be vaccinated with the booster dose, so that the vaccination certificate remains active.
Compared to those over 60, 230,000 citizens have been vaccinated with at least one dose or have made an appointment. Typically 200,000 have completed their vaccination, another 12,000 have a scheduled appointment and another 12,000 have applied for a home vaccination. Since last Monday, as he said, they continue to make appointments and until today 10,000 appointments have been made.
To date, 110,000 applications have been submitted to the vaccination program and 75,000 citizens have been vaccinated.
