The Metropolitan General Hospital, a constant supporter in every effort that promotes sports and positive standards in society, proudly supports Charalambos Taiganidis, Paralympic Swimming Gold Medalist, in the new open sea swimming challenge that is being held for the first time worldwide.
Determined to overcome his powers and prove that nothing is impossible, Charalambos Taiganidis will start his new swimming venture on November 1 starting from Chania and ending in Sitia, crossing along the entire northern coast of Crete in a a distance of approximately 131 nautical miles (242 km).
It is the new attempt by the Paralympic gold medalist to send a message of optimism and strength after successfully swimming 25 miles (50 km) from Rhodes to Symi last November, the first recorded swimming attempt in the world by an athlete with a disability. who swam 50 km in 9 hours and 40′ in the open sea.
Charalambos Taiganidis was declared the Champion of Greece from 1992 to 2002, conquering more than 20 Panhellenic records. When in 2003 he was diagnosed with neuromuscular atrophy of the optic nerve he continued to compete, achieving top performances in the Beijing and Athens Paralympic Games.
The Metropolitan General considers it an honor and a duty to stand as an ally in the determination and strength of Charalambos, as a small contribution to a unique effort that is a source of inspiration for us all.
