In the last 24 hours in Italy, 99,522 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed, while 433 patients died due to complications of Covid-19.
In total, 884,893 diagnostic tests were performed, 11.2% of which were positive.
There are currently 1,440 patients with Covid-19 in the intensive care units of the country (17 less than yesterday Thursday), while in the hospital wards there are 19,000, that is 324 less than in the past 24 hours.
At the same time, the hospital of infectious diseases in Rome, “Lazzaro Spalantsani”, announced that its doctors were the first in Italy to administer the antiviral pill Paxlovid, to a patient with coronavirus. He is a 54-year-old man who suffers from chronic heart problems and showed symptoms of the virus three days ago.
According to the Italian press, the inhabitants of the country spent a total of 140 million euros in 2021 for diagnostic coronavirus tests performed in pharmacies.
With regard to vaccinations, the Italian Higher Institute of Health announced today that four million people over the age of 20 have not yet visited the vaccination centers.
“The pressure on hospitals seems to have started to decrease, but the rates are still high. That is why we call on everyone to complete their vaccination cycle and to observe all safety measures “, said Gianni Retsa, head of the prevention department of the Italian Ministry of Health.
He added that infections are declining in all age groups, but that children and young people up to the age of 20 continue to have the highest incidence.
