There are 78 intubated patients with coronavirus – Two new deaths from flu – There are 14 flu patients in the intensive care unit
The coronavirus and the flu are “spreading” in the country as a new increasenoted according to EODY in the admissions of patients with respiratory infections while 93 of our fellow citizens lost their lives.
At the same time, 78 are the patients with coronavirus that were deemed necessary to be intubated while two new deaths from influenza were recorded.
To them 14 amount to patients with influenza who are in intensive care.
According to the EODY update, the period January 01 – January 07, 202378 people out of 70 compared to the previous record, they are hospitalized intubated, as they contracted the coronavirus.
The epidemiological data of the last week (from January 1 to 7) for the flu, coronavirus and RSV announced earlier by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), indicate that the positivity in all tested samples showed a decrease compared to the previous week.
The number of admissions for COVID-19 reached 1,679 and showed a 15% increase over the average weekly number of new admissions over the previous 4 weeks.
The number of new intubations was 37 (31 last week) and showed an increase over the average weekly number of new intubations over the previous 4 weeks.
The number of patients with Covid-19 infection who are intubated are 78 (70 last week).
At the same time they were recorded 93 (57 last week) deaths in patients with Covid infection.
The Eris variant (EG.5) was the most frequent, appearing in 42% of samplesfollowed by XBB.1.5 (16%), BA.2.86 (14%) and JN.1 (13%).
Influenza virus
Community flu positivity remains above 10% (sentinel) where is an indicative seasonal threshold for the onset of epidemic influenza activity according to ECDC and has an increasing trend.
14 new serious cases with hospitalization in ICU were recordedwhile 2 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were also recorded.
From week 40/2023 to week 52/2023, 49 people with laboratory-confirmed influenza were hospitalized in the ICU and 11 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded.
From week 40/2023 to week 01/2024, 166 influenza strains have been typed, derived from hospital samples and community sentinel samples, of which 163 (98%) were type A and 3 (2%) type B.
In total, have been subtyped in the two Influenza Reference Centers 142 type A strains. 15 (11%) belonged to subtype A(H3) and 127 (89%) to subtype A(H1).
Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV
The positivity of RSV in sentinel PHY samples showed a slight decrease compared to the previous week.
