Why Brazil is slower to vaccinate children than neighbors in South America; listen to podcast

by

Last Wednesday (8), Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga celebrated the mark of 15% of children aged 5 to 11 years vaccinated with the first dose of the immunizer against Covid-19. But an analysis of official data by the leaf evidences the slow pace of the immunization campaign in this age group.

To reach this index, Brazil took three times longer than countries like Canada, Australia, Argentina and Uruguay. Among ten nations that provide detailed records of this vaccination, the country is at the bottom of the proportional ranking – ahead only of France, one of the main stages of anti-vaccination activism in Europe.

According to experts, the reasons for the Brazilian slowness are the lack of doses, obstacles in the distribution and application of them and a distrust of parents caused by misinformation.

In this Monday’s episode (14), CafĂ© da ManhĂ£ deals with the difficulties in the childhood vaccination campaign in the country and tells how Covid-19 has affected children. The podcast listens to pediatrician Renato Kfouri, director of the Brazilian Society of Immunizations.
