The briefing of the experts at the Ministry of Health on the latest data on the course of the coronavirus pandemic in Greece has been completed.
The Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gaga, the Pediatrician – Infectious Diseases Vana Papaevangelou and the professor of Epidemiology Gikas Majorkinis, summarized the epidemiological data and spoke about the de-escalation of the pandemic in our country.
Gaga: The Novavax vaccine next week
The Novavax protein vaccine is expected to arrive in our country very soon. As the Deputy Minister of Health Mina Gaga pointed out, the Novavax preparation will come to our country within the next week. At the end of March, he added that the Sanofi vaccine will arrive in our country.
For the antiviral drugs, as he said, 2,653 applications have been made, out of which 1,957 packages have already been delivered to an equal number of patients. 322 applications have been canceled by the patients themselves while the rest are being prepared for delivery.
Papaevangelou: Disconnection of the number of cases and hard indicators
Pediatrician – Infectious Diseases Specialist Vana Papaevangelou spoke about the disconnection of the number of cases and the hard indicators.
96% of the new cases are due to infection from the Omicron variant and only 2.2% to the Delta mutation, he stressed.
Evidence shows that when the Delta prevailed, getting sick protected one from being able to catch the virus again by 90%.
With the predominance of Omicron the previous infection protects us only at 56% accordingly
A study by Israel on people who had coronary heart disease and therefore chose not to be vaccinated, showed that they were 60-80% more likely to get the disease.
The study was conducted before the prevalence of Omicron so the risk is now even greater.
Wrong I do not need to be vaccinated because I am already sick.
To ease the measures, he said there is a decoupling of the number of cases and hard indicators. For this reason, the easing of measures for vaccinated people was chosen, which does not mean that the pandemic is over.
We will coexist with the virus for a long time and everyone will have to make decisions about the activities they will participate in. As he mentioned, we are not able to lift all the restrictive measures like other countries and we are waiting because new variations are likely to appear.
