Starting next year, the consumer should be faced with the statement of Cannabis sativa, another name for a well-known product. We are talking about CBD (Cannabidiol, one of the substances in Cannabis) full spectrum (with the inclusion of all other plant cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids). The classification is valid for products with health registration at Anvisa (Agency for Sanitary Surveillance).
“CBD Full spectrum is an industry terminology”, explains Fabrício Pamplona, pharmacologist. “Anvisa is right. CBD is just the name of the molecule. When they are not isolated from other cannabinoids, the product must bear the name of extract of Cannabis sativa. But it is worth mentioning that it is a product rich in CBD”.
The other cannabinoids (THC, CBG…) appear in low concentrations to guarantee the entourage effect, which is the interaction between different molecules that boost CBD in the body.
This is the case of products from companies Promediol, headquartered in Switzerland, and Zion, in the USA. Both managed to obtain health registration last Thursday, 04. They will arrive on the market with the extract of Cannabis sativa (known until now as full spectrum CBD) .
Below is the list of products from Cannabis registered at Anvisa, since the publication of RDC 327, in December 2019. It is noteworthy that in the list*, Cannabidiol from the Farmanguinhos Pharmaceutical Laboratory, of the Ministry of Health, is produced by Prati-Donaduzzi. Therefore, there are actually five manufacturers (Prati, Nunature, Verdemed, Promediol and Zion).
