The positivity for SARS-CoV2 in the community remains at consistently high levels, while the hard indicators (admissions, intubations, deaths) show a slight decrease, according to the epidemiological report of the EODY for the week of August 5-11.

Influenza-like illness – ILI (regardless of pathogen)

The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits remains low.

Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (regardless of pathogen)

The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits remains low.

SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection

The positivity in all tested samples is at the same levels as last week.

817 new arrivals were recorded, showing a slight decrease from the previous week, while the average weekly number of new arrivals over the previous four weeks was 803.

The number of new intubations was nine, while the average weekly number of new intubations over the previous four weeks was 12.

The number of intubated patients with COVID-19 infection is 20.

The number of deaths was 35, while the average weekly number of deaths over the previous four weeks was 39.

The dominant strain in recent weeks is BA.2.86 which carries at least one of the F456L and R346T mutations.

It is noted that this category of mutant strains has not been associated with an increased risk of severe disease.

Viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed a decrease in SARS-CoV-2 circulation in three of the nine areas tested and an increase in three as well. Stabilization was recorded in three areas.

Vulnerable population groups (elderly and people with underlying diseases) are advised to scrupulously follow preventive measures against respiratory infections and to seek medical advice in time for symptoms, in order to provide timely treatment. At the same time, it is recommended to the general population, in the presence of respiratory infection symptoms, to limit contacts with people belonging to vulnerable groups.

Influenza virus

No positive samples for influenza were found in the community (PHC Sentinel surveillance network), while positivity is low in hospitals (SARI surveillance network).

No new serious case with ICU hospitalization, no new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza

Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV

No positive samples were found in both the community (PHC Sentinel surveillance network) and hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
