Brazil recorded 219 deaths from Covid and 15,810 cases of the disease, this Sunday (6). With this, the country reaches 652,207 deaths and 29,045,946 registered cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Moving averages of deaths and cases remain down from two weeks ago. The average number of deaths is now 430, a reduction of 48%, and that of infections is 40,161, a drop of 60%.
The statistical feature that seeks to smooth out variations in data, such as those that usually happen on weekends and holidays, is calculated by adding the deaths in the last seven days and dividing the result by seven.
The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between sheetUOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic.
The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.
Vaccination data against Covid-19, also collected by the consortium, was updated in 18 states.
The consortium of press vehicles recently updated the Brazilian population numbers used to calculate the percentage of people vaccinated in the country. Now, the data used are the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) projection for 2022.
All numbers are now calculated according to these values, including last year’s. Therefore, the percentages of people vaccinated may differ from the previously published figures.
Brazil registered 187,551 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 this Sunday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 47,532 first doses, 28,763 second doses. In addition, 507 single doses and 110,749 booster doses were recorded.
In all, 173,038,399 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. There are already 155,757,233 people with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine. As for booster doses, 66,074,186 were applied.
Thus, the country already has 80.55% of the population with the 1st dose and 72.5% of Brazilians with the two doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine, and 30.76% of the population with vaccine booster.
The consortium also started recording the doses of vaccines given to children. The population aged 5 to 11 years partially immunized (with only the first dose of vaccine received) is 47.1%. In the same age group, 1.43% received the second dose or the single dose.
Considering the entire population over 5 years, 86.45% received one dose and 77.82% received two doses or Janssen’s single dose vaccine.
Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.
The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
