For the third consecutive day, the Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidaki, continues her visits to the Health Centers of Northern Greece, in the context of strengthening the primary health care structures. Today, Wednesday, October 9, she visited the Health Centers of Veria, Naoussa and Alexandria, accompanied by the general secretary of Public Health, Fofo Kalyva, and the deputy commander of the 3rd Ministry of Health, Michalis Kupkas. Also present were the MPs of New Democracy, Apostolos Vesyropoulos (Imathia), Neoklis Kritikos (Lakonia) and Dionysios Aktypis (Zakynthos).
“We are making the first organized effort for the country to acquire an integrated prevention system, marrying primary health care with public health. With the integration of TOMY, COMY and the telemedicine network, by the end of 2025 the image of primary care will have changed radically,” said the Deputy Minister, emphasizing the importance of primary health care.
The Deputy Minister also referred to the utilization of resources amounting to 45 million euros from the Recovery Fund to strengthen the medical technological equipment exclusively for the Health Centers, while the upgrading of their infrastructure is also underway. Already for the Health Center of Alexandria, the relevant contract has been signed for its energy upgrade and modernization.
Among other things, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of training health professionals: “We have put two major training programs on track. We aspire that in the next two years, more than 10,000 professionals in primary care will have certified training, thus offering quality health services to citizens.”
Finally, referring to the National Prevention Program, “I PREVENT”, the Deputy Minister urged the medical staff to encourage citizens not to neglect their preventive examinations. “It is of great importance that the country gains years of healthy life and that we no longer identify health with the hospital. We want primary health care, both as a structure and as a function, to focus on Prevention”, he concluded.
