Zakynthos was visited today by the Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistokleous, in the context of the presentation of the National Strategy for Regional and Local Development “We discuss, decide, move forward, TOGETHER for Zakynthos”.

Mr. Themistokleous visited the General Hospital of Zakynthos, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Christos Kella, the Member of Parliament of Zakynthos Dionysios Aktypis, the commander of the 6th Health Region Ilias Theodoropoulos and institutions of the island, where he had meetings with the medical, nursing and administrative staff.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the human resources but also on upgrading the hospital’s infrastructure, as well as the ongoing energy upgrade project with a budget that exceeds 845,000 euros, through the NSRF.

“Our presence here in Zakynthos proves our practical commitment to strengthening the health structures of island Greece. Our hospitals must be able to provide quality care to all citizens, regardless of their geographic location,” Deputy Health Minister Themistokleous said in a statement.

He spoke about the upgrading of the NHS, with new recruits, technological equipment and projects that will strengthen the infrastructure. He announced that in the near future 4,000 permanent and auxiliary staff positions will be announced for 2025. At the same time, he noted, the new aid to doctors foresees an increase in financial allowances in barren areas, such as the island of Zakynthos.

“Our goal is to meet the needs of local communities and to ensure equal access to health services for every citizen,” emphasized Mr. Themistokleous.

This visit is part of a series of tours by the Deputy Minister of Health throughout Greece, with the aim of continuously monitoring and improving the operation of hospitals.
