In the context of the national prevention program “PREVENT”, more than 4 million electronic referrals have already been issued in less than a week, calling on beneficiaries to schedule preventive examinations and not to neglect them. They are an important reminder that our health starts with prevention.

For the colon cancer prevention program referrals have been issued for 1,461,560 beneficiaries. This program concerns women and men, aged 50-69, who have AMKA, whether they are insured or uninsured. Beneficiaries can obtain a free self-test from pharmacies partnering with the Ministry of Health and if there is a positive result in the self-test, they can proceed to a free clinical assessment by a gastroenterologist and, if deemed appropriate, a free diagnostic colonoscopy will also be performed.

For the cervical cancer prevention program referrals have been issued for 2,619,868 women for a Pap test (for women 21-29) or for a molecular HPV DNA test (for women 30-65). The cervical cancer prevention program concerns women aged 21-65 who have health insurance, either insured or uninsured. In addition, the program provides the possibility of re-examination completely free of charge to women for whom there are findings.

It is reminded that all the beneficiaries of preventive examinations receive their referrals through an immaterial prescription or by showing their AMKA at health structures and collaborating pharmacies.

The national prevention program “PREVENT» designed by the Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidakis. It is implemented by IDIKA SA, a body of the Ministry of Digital Governance, financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0 and is part of a broader and integrated strategy for cancer prevention.
