The Government of São Paulo should recommend the mandatory use of masks in open environments in schools in cities that have not reached 80% or more of vaccination coverage for their children and adolescents. The index used will be that of the first dose and the final decision will be up to the cities.

The decision was taken this Tuesday (8) at the Covid-19 Contingency Center and will still be evaluated by the political area of Palácio dos Bandeirantes later this morning.

Governor João Doria (PSDB) will announce the easing of the use of masks in open environments at a press conference at 12:45 pm, but the exceptions still needed to be defined.

In addition to schools in cities with childhood vaccination rates below 80%, the government should recommend the use of protection for immunosuppressed people and in crowded situations.

The use of the mask has been mandatory in the state of São Paulo since May 2020, as a way of combating and preventing the new coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the government of São Paulo announced the mark of 70% of the population aged 5 to 11 years vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19. 3.6 million doses were applied.

The share of children with the second dose reached 19.5%.

According to the Secretary of State for Health, another 821,100 children can already take the second dose, but have not yet returned to health facilities.

According to the folder, all municipalities received enough immunizers to vaccinate the public in this age group with at least one dose.
