City of São Paulo begins to apply 4th dose of Covid vaccine this Friday (18)

by

The fourth dose of the Covid vaccine in the elderly over 80 begins to be applied this (18) in the capital of São Paulo. The information is from the Municipal Health Department of São Paulo.

The initiative was announced one day when Governor João Doria (PSDB) announced that the new booster dose will be available in the state of São Paulo from the 21st of this month.

The rules for taking the fourth dose remain the same as those informed by Doria: being over 80 years old and having taken the third dose for at least four months. According to the city hall, there is an estimate of approximately 250,000 elderly people with these requirements in the city.

The secretariat did not say whether the new stage of immunization will be done by a specific vaccine, saying only that “the vaccination will be with the available immunizers”.

To take the dose, it is necessary to present an identification document, such as CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registration) or SUS Card (Unified Health System). It is also necessary to take the vaccination card where the other doses received were recorded.

The application of the vaccine will be done in all UBS (Basic Health Units) and AMA (Ambulatory Medical Assistance), from 7 am to 7 pm. It is also possible to get vaccinated with the fourth dose at megaposts and drivethrus that can be consulted on the official website of the prefecture.

The secretariat also stated that, through the ESF (Family Health Strategy), it will apply the vaccine in ILP (Long Stay Institutions) and also for elderly people who cannot leave their homes for regular vaccination sites.

According to the city hall, more than 6 million additional doses have already been applied, which represents a vaccination coverage of 68% of the population over 18 years of age.

The fourth dose is already applied in other countries, such as France and Israel. In Brazil, the Ministry of Health recommends that it be applied only to immunosuppressed people over 12 years of age. Some experts have also indicated that the application of the fourth dose at this time is not so appropriate.
