An innovative volunteer program for Greece for the training of volunteers, organized volunteer health associations with their dogs, to provide emotional support to the daily hospital unit of Metaxas Hospital, where the oncology patients are given.

On Monday, April 14, the first visit dog visit to the daily hospitalization of Piraeus Anti -Cancer Hospital “Metaxas”, in the framework of the innovative volunteer program “Tail”.

Olympus, accompanied by his operator and founder of the Dog Therapy Organization, Mr. Konstantinos Kolia and the psychologist Mr. Nefeli Fasoulis, visited the patients of MNN. during their treatment.

Patients and staff welcomed Olympus, who during his stay in the clinic of the day generously gave moments of care and “hugs”, and did not refuse to take pictures with them!

Metaxas Hospital Commander Mr. Sarantos Efstathopoulos said: “Today we had a very special visit to the Metaxas Hospital Day Unit!

It was the official first treatment dog at Metaxas Oncology Hospital and went much better than the most optimistic could imagine!

The fervent reception of patients receiving their treatment in MNN, their attendants and our staff, is the best proof that we are on the right track!

I note that Metaxas Hospital is the first in Greece to begin the creation of a network of dogs with dogs, which will receive certification after a sufficiently demanding process in order to accompany the clinical day patients during their treatment.

I am optimistic that the “Tail” program will be successful and will be a good practice for many more nursing institutions in our country.

I am very happy because this innovative program is being implemented rapidly at Metaxas Hospital, thanks to the professionalism and sensitivity of our staff and our Dog Therapy & Win Cancer, whose subscription is catalytic throughout the project.

All of the above are designed and implemented with the aim of improving the quality of life of our oncological patients, with the highest priority to ensure their physical integrity and mental balance, and of course with plenty of love and interest from all involved! “

Dogtherapy Psychologist Nefeli Fasoulis said:

“In the context of the implementation of the program, we made a first visit with our healing dog to get to know the patient.

Their extremely positive response gives us the green light to move on.

We have already begun the procedures for the selection of volunteers with their dogs and we hope that by Christmas we will have the first team of HEALTH Voluntary Associations to cover the daily hospitalization of Metaxas Hospital.

We are very happy and grateful because through the help of volunteer clubs, we will be able to offer moments of joy and tranquility to more patients, while at the same time the positive effect of lives on human psychology will receive greater recognition. “
