What will be the process – what cases concern and who can take free obesity drugs – the conditions
In a few weeks it is expected to start the anti -obesity program, he told Skai.grDeputy Minister of Health, Irene Agapidakis.
This is a free visit to a specialist physician as well as free medicines, to those diagnosed with a serious obesity problem announced by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his Sunday post.
The criteria – who concerns
The criteria of the obesity program will be strict, as Ms. Agapidakis pointed out and will concern cases where there is a pathogenic obesity with a body mass index of 40 and over or 35 with serious health problems such as sleep apnea or cardiovascular issues.
In these cases people can receive free of charge new obesity drugs after examination by a specialist; such as endocrinologist (or possibly a pathologist) and continuous medical monitoring as well as parallel support from a nutritionist. She emphasized that if one leaves the nutritionist, the drug would automatically be interrupted. “It is important to have a comprehensive therapeutic framework, namely medical monitoring and nutrition support and to combine nutrition and medicines.”The Deputy Minister of Health said.
The procedure
It is noted that the obesity program is provided under the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program and in particular the program ‘I am overlapping’ cardiovascular risk. Thus, the blood tests are initially done, then the doctor proceeds to evaluate cardiovascular risk, evaluates the body mass index and receives a complete history. This procedure will also include people’s references to free access to medicines and nutrition services to tackle obesity. What these medicines and other details will be will be determined by the experts of the Public Health Experts Committee, as the Deputy Minister of Health noted.
The Prime Minister’s post
It is recalled that the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced a free visit to an endocrinologist as well as free drugs to those who are diagnosed with a serious obesity problem.
“I am addressing another personal appeal: Don’t neglect the preventive exams. Use the “I AM” program »the Prime Minister points out in the post and adds:
“Through the program” CONDUCT “the cardiovascular risk, we give yet another possibility: citizens who are identified in these tests with a serious obesity problem will be able to visit free endocrinologist and also take free obesity medicines.”
