Ascending trends were observed in relation to the week 14 to 20 March 2022, at the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in urban wastewater in eight of the thirteen (8/13) areas controlled by the National Wastewater Epidemiology Network (EDEL) of ΕΟΔΥ.
The largest increase was observed in Heraklion where the viral load reached + 291%. Explosion of the viral charge was also detected in Saint Nicholas with the viral load increasing by 233%.
Increases were also observed in the Region Attica (+ 41%) but also in Thessaloniki (+ 29%).
The announcement in detail
The results of the laboratory tests of the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology for the epidemiological surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in urban wastewater, which operates under the coordination of EODY, are announced.
The samples come from the Attica Region and the cities of Thessaloniki, Larissa, Volos, Heraklion, Chania, Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos Lassithi, Patras, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis, Ioannina and Corfu.
The samples are taken from the entrances of the local Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWUs) and correspond to the population served by them. Panel
Conclusions: During the week 21 to 27 March 2022, there were increasing trends, compared to the week 14 to 20 March 2022, in the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in urban wastewater in eight of the thirteen (8/13) areas were controlled by the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) of EODY, downward trends in four of the thirteen (4/13) areas of EDEL and stabilizing trends in one of the thirteen (1/13) areas controlled by EDEL.
Clearly increasing trends were observed in the Attica Region (+ 41%), Ioannina (+ 108%), Agios Nikolaos (+ 233%) and Heraklion (+ 291%).
