New horizons are opened for a significant number of women, but also in gynecological oncology, from the first officially recorded pregnancy in our country after successful endometrial cancer treatment, hysteroscopy preservatives and IVF.
This is a development that seals the high medical level in Greece in the field of gynecological oncology and assisted reproduction and, at the same time, shapes new data for every woman at a reproductive age affected by endometroid carcinoma, Type I.
A 34 -year -old patient From northern Greece that had been infected with endometrial cancer is being prepared today to become mother With IVF, through an innovative process and multi-scientific cooperation, under the supervision of every stage of Professor of Obstetrics-Gynecology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Grigoriou Grimbizis, President of the Scientific Council of the Clinic “Genesis” in Thessaloniki.
As stated in a related announcement, until recently, the treatment of endometrial cancer, as well as gynecological tumors, was identical to patients’ reproductive amputation and couples were adopted.
The medical achievement
“With the implementation of more conservative surgeries, however, resulting from the evolution of our knowledge in the treatment of gynecological organs and endometrial cancer, in conjunction with the capabilities offered by newer surgical techniques, such as hysteroscopy, laparoscopic and laparoscopic surgery way or in IVF, “the announcement said.
The 34 -year -old patient had undergone an endometrial cavity with a hysteroscopy for endometrial polyps by Professor Mr. Grimbizis, while in the process of IVF.
Hysteroscopy found focal endometrial cancer. According to the announcement, “after a thorough assessment of the disease by the professor and the Oncology Council and in accordance with recent European guidelines, it was considered appropriate to treat the disease conservatively with hysteroscopic removal of damage and drug treatment as an alternative to classical treatment. This option offered the patient to later become a mother by transporting already existing fertilized eggs. With hysteroscopic removal of cancer tissues and medication, the damage was successfully treated. During the thorough re -checking of the intrauterine cavity by hysteroscopy, after the treatment was completed, the disease was fully underpinned and all its tests were normal. “
Subsequently, with the support of her family, the 34 -year -old woman decided to take the next step, seeking a pregnancy by transporting the already cryopresent fertilized eggs. The IVF that followed was successful and pregnancy is now ongoing.
“Her case is the first report of successful pregnancy in Greece, after endoscopic conservative surgical treatment of endometrial cancer in which the patient’s uterus and ovaries were preserved. It is, in essence, a double gift of life for every woman who passed her test and marks the future, “says Professor Gregory Grimbizis.
