Two new domestic cases of infection by West Nile virus were diagnosed in the last week in Greeceaccording to the epidemiological report of EYE.

From the beginning of the period 2025 to October 8A total of 93 domestic cases have been identified. Of these, 75 presented events from the central nervous system, such as encephalitis, meningitis or acute loose paralysis, while 18 had mild manifestations or had no symptoms of the nervous system.

During the same period, 8 deaths have been recorded in patients with virus infection and manifestations of the central nervous system, all over 65 years of age.

To date, cases have been recorded and explored in 41 municipalities in the country, which belong to 23 regional or metropolitan units. These include: West Attica, Western Sector of Athens, Piraeus, Islands, East Attica, Central Athens, Northern Athens, Ilia, Achaia, Aitoloakarnania, Evros, Larissa, Karditsa, Karditsa, Karditsa, Karditsa

The health authorities estimate that further outbreaks are likely and expected.

In European countries and neighboring states, beyond Greece, there are cases of West Nile virus in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Turkey.
