SP has the lowest moving average of deaths by Covid since January

by

The state of São Paulo recorded this Wednesday (6) a moving average of 42 deaths from Covid per day. It is the lowest average since January 15 this year.

In the first months of 2022, because of the high transmissibility of the omicron variant, Brazil saw contamination rates explode and deaths increase considerably. In the state of São Paulo, for example, on February 9, the average number of deaths reached 288 per day.

The average number of deaths in São Paulo, however, has since started to fall almost continuously, until reaching the value of this Wednesday, which is far, however, from the lowest number of deaths recorded due to Covid. In December last year, the state had less than 20 deaths per day.

This Wednesday, Jean Gorinchteyn, secretary of health of the state, said that, in addition to the drop in deaths and cases, there is stability in hospitalizations. “The high rates of vaccination paved a safe way to face the pandemic in SP”, he said.

According to the Health Department, the last epidemiological week brought a reduction, compared to the previous week, of 17% in deaths and 16% in cases.

At the moment, there are 1,672 people hospitalized in São Paulo, of which 561 are in ICUs (intensive care units).
