This is James Mavelan, a non-verbal autistic young man who became the new face of Primark.

Seven-year-old James began modeling in July last year after being diagnosed with autism at age two and discovered dating his mother Dior.

It was her bubbly personality and flashy style that helped the petite fashionista stand out, and Dior, 43, couldn’t be prouder.

Dior, a full-time James educator, said:

“Of course, when it comes to inclusion, there is a revolution at this point.

When we see black children with autism working with these great brands, it is clear that all is well in the world and we are very grateful.

James loves fashion and really wants to get into the industry. Of course, he is already headed in the right direction at such a young age. He is a favorite brand, so he always wants to wear Gucci.

“Last summer we were at a fashion sale in central London and someone approached us. James was wearing stunning Gucci clothes and they said he was James. I asked him if he wanted to be a model.

They asked him a question but I told him he was autistic because he didn’t speak and it was difficult to communicate, then they approached us with a model of Zebedee that works with a different model.

After he signed we went to Manchester and shot Primark. This was a great experience.

“She loves cameras and she knows how to pose. It only took 30 minutes to take a picture.”

Dior first noticed that James did not look like any other child as a child.

He said: ‘I thought something was wrong so when he was a year old I took him to the doctor.

By the time I was about 6 months old, I wasn’t playing with my usual toys and couldn’t make eye contact.

“It was terrifying to see my son getting worse every day. He was diagnosed at the age of two.

I had a lot to learn about this condition: I was nervous about what my son’s life would be like.

“Currently, there is a lot of support in the community and he goes to a special school that really cares about his needs.

“All of our friends and family are very proud of him. People take a photo of James on the sign and send it to me. Every time I see it, I am happy.”
