(News Bulletin 247) – Fermentalg, a specialist in microalgae, announced Thursday that it has started production of the first industrial batches of its new natural blue food coloring.
In a press release, the company indicates that it has recorded a first order from its partner DDW, a subsidiary of the Swiss Givaudan, as part of the pre-marketing of this new ingredient.
This first order should allow DDW to provide samples to major players in the food industry, particularly in the sports drinks sector, but also in confectionery.
As a reminder, the partnership between Fermentalg and DDW was established in 2020, with a first phase of technological development and industrialization which ended in June 2022.
Since then, Givaudan has initiated the marketing phase of the product, under the name ‘Galdieria Blue Extract’.
As part of the pre-commercial phase, Fermentalg has planned up to three production campaigns with a German contract manufacturer.
The first production campaign alone, carried out between the beginning of November and January 2023, should represent a turnover of 250,000 euros.
In addition, the regulatory process with the European and American authorities is continuing, which leads Fermentalg to anticipate a marketing authorization in the second half of 2023.
