(News Bulletin 247) – Boeing today announced that it has signed agreements to purchase 5.6 million gallons (approximately 21.2 million liters) of Sustainable Blended Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced by Neste, the world’s leading producer of SAF, to support its commercial operations in the United States.

“This SAF supply covers a quarter of Boeing’s total fuel needs last year, and we aim to increase this share in the years to come,” said Sheila Remes, vice president sustainability & environment at Boeing.

As a reminder, SAF reduces CO2 emissions by up to 80% over the life cycle of the fuel with the potential to reach 100% in the future.

Experts agree that this solution has the greatest potential for decarbonizing aviation over the next 20-30 years.

Made from multiple feedstocks, SAF is certified for commercial use and can currently be blended up to 50% with traditional jet fuel without modification to aircraft, engines or fueling infrastructure.
