(News Bulletin 247) – Solvay announced on Wednesday that it aims to grow the turnover of its aerospace and defense activities by around 10% per year in the medium term.
The chemical group explains that it intends to take advantage of the continued recovery of commercial aviation after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic and that it displays a “good level of visibility” on its order book.
Its materials portfolio, which includes specific applications on all the main aeronautical programs, notably includes lightweighting materials allowing an increase of up to 25% in energy efficiency, and consequently the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
‘The result is more efficient aircraft, consuming less fuel, and therefore less expensive to operate’, underlines the chemist, who specifies that his technologies currently equip some 8,000 airliners.
These announcements were made on the occasion of a webinar devoted to the activities of the aerospace and defense sector, which are to join the future entity ‘SpecialtyCo’ (specialty chemicals) as part of the group’s proposed split. , expected at the end of the year.
