(News Bulletin 247) – Iberdrola and bp announced on Thursday that they planned to invest between them one billion euros in their joint venture of charging stations for electric vehicles created last year.

The Spanish electricity company and the British energy group explain that they want to build a network of 11,700 ultra-fast charging points in Spain and Portugal by 2030.

Under the terms of the agreement, these infrastructures would be deployed within service stations belonging to bp.

As part of their strategic alliance, Iberdrola and bp have set themselves the intermediate objective of installing 5,000 fast chargers in the Iberian Peninsula by 2025.

Iberdrola currently operates around 3,500 charging points in Spain and Portugal, mostly powered by renewable energy and used by around 100,000 users.

bp claims for its part more than 100,000 chargers, mostly located in Great Britain and Germany.

The two partners indicate that they also intend to study the merits of a joint offer in the United Kingdom.
