BERLIN (Reuters) – Lufthansa announced on Thursday an order for 22 latest generation long-haul jets, worth a total of 7.5 billion dollars (7.08 billion euros).

The order includes 10 Airbus A350-1000s, five Airbus A350-900s and seven Boeing 787-9s. The devices will be delivered from the mid-2020s, the company said.

Lufthansa is also in advanced negotiations to acquire other long-haul aircraft that could be made available at shorter times, the group added.

With this aircraft order, Lufthansa has acquired more than 50 latest-generation aircraft for its airlines since the start of the pandemic, CEO Carsten Spohr said in a statement.

These aircraft “will also play a decisive role in helping us achieve our carbon reduction targets by 2030, because fuel-efficient aircraft that incorporate the latest technologies are by far the best lever to ensure better protection of the climate in the aviation sector”, added Carsten Spohr.

Airbus said the contract brings Lufthansa’s order book for the A350 to a total of 60 aircraft.

In addition, the Scandinavian airline SAS said Thursday that it had concluded sale-leaseback agreements with the lessor Aviation Capital Group for ten new Airbus A320neos.
