(News Bulletin 247) – ABB has partnered with Direct Energy Partners (DEP), a start-up that uses digital technology to accelerate the adoption of DC microgrids.
The partnership involves a minority investment in Direct Energy Partners through ABB’s venture capital unit, ABB Technology Ventures (ATV). Financial details of the investment were not disclosed.
DEP focuses on local power generation and distribution with scalable DC microgrids that increase customers’ operational autonomy while reducing their overall energy and operating costs.
“This partnership will allow us to deliver a digital platform that will enable power professionals to design and deliver DC microgrids with confidence,” said Giampiero Frisio, president of ABB’s Smart Power business.
Giel Van den Broeck, CTO of Direct Energy Partners, added: ‘We believe DC technology will play a key role in the energy transition, with billions of assets expected to come online over the next 30 coming years. ‘
