(News Bulletin 247) – Nestlé is piloting the installation of refillable vending machines for Milo and Koko Krunch as part of its efforts to explore solutions that help eliminate the need for disposable packaging.
In collaboration with two start-ups, Qyos and Algramo, these machines will be available at two local retailers in Indonesia for a trial period of four to six months.
Consumers can bring their own containers or buy the provided containers which are available at each of the points of sale. Using a QR code, they can digitally access product information that is usually on the packaging.
Packaging experts from Nestlé’s R&D centers in Singapore and Switzerland worked in collaboration with Nestlé teams in Indonesia, as well as with start-ups for the development of vending machines.
The company has already conducted more than 20 pilot trials for reuse and refill systems in 12 countries. Among them is a recent pilot trial for Nesquik reusable containers in Germany, in collaboration with start-ups, local retailers and other partners.
