(News Bulletin 247) – ExxonMobil announced on Thursday the effective start of the expansion project for its refinery in Beaumont (Texas), which will enable it to produce 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent more per day.

The expansion of the site, which is already among the largest petrochemical sites on the Gulf Coast, will be based on the energy group’s growing crude oil production in the Permian Basin.

These additional capacities should make it possible to bring the total production of the site to more than 630,000 barrels per day, which will make it one of the largest refineries in the United States.

Connected via a network of pipelines to ExxonMobil’s operations in the Permian Basin, the site manufactures finished products such as diesel, gasoline and jet kerosene.

ExxonMobil employs 2,100 people at its site, which also houses activities in chemicals, motor oils and plastics, which represents about one in seven jobs in the Beaumont region.

The project, which began in 2019 and involved 1,700 subcontractors, was delivered on time and in accordance with the planned budgets.
