(News Bulletin 247) – Spie announced on Monday that it would participate in the construction of a substation aimed at connecting the terrestrial and submarine networks of TenneT, the electricity network operator in the Netherlands.
Spie Nederland, the Dutch subsidiary of the French engineering group, has been selected to contribute to the construction of a two gigawatt (GW) onshore substation to link the offshore wind farms to the grid at high tension.
Under this new contract, Spie will be in charge of the technical installations related to the onshore substation, such as lighting and electrical installation.
Its teams will also install access control, fire alarm and evacuation systems, but will also take care of data cabling, heating and cooling systems, water installation, plumbing , sewers and backup power systems.
From 2024, TenneT will connect the Dutch submarine power grids according to a new 2GW standard that will allow the electricity produced by offshore wind farms to be routed to land via a high voltage direct current (HVDC) connection.
