(News Bulletin 247) – Porsche announced on Monday that its sales had increased by 18% during the first quarter, thanks in particular to the undeniable success of its range of SUVs.

In a press release, the German automaker said it sold 80,767 units in the first three months of the year, compared to 68,426 over the same period last year.

The luxury car group says it has delivered 23,880 copies of its compact SUV, the Macan, a figure up 30% year on year, as well as 23,387 Cayenne (+ 23%).

Sales of the 911, its emblematic model, increased by 19% to reach 11,063 units.

In geographical terms, Porsche says it has mainly benefited from the dynamism of the North American (+30%), Chinese (+21%) and German (+19%) markets.

‘This good start to the year makes us confident about the rest of the financial year,’ commented Detlev von Platen, its commercial and marketing director. ‘At the same time, we remain vigilant and flexible in the face of an environment that remains difficult,’ he said.

Listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the title Porsche fell by 0.6% following the publication of these figures.
