April 20 (Reuters) – Getlink on Thursday reported first-quarter revenue up 126% year-on-year, driven by the contribution of its new ElecLink network.

The Eleclink unit, operational since May 2022 and which allows the exchange of electricity between France and the United Kingdom, contributed to almost half of the group’s quarterly turnover, i.e. 231 million euros .

The group’s total turnover for the first three months of the year amounted to 507 million euros, against 224 million euros a year earlier.

“The solid sales figures established by all the brands of the proup in the first quarter confirm the growing attractiveness of our simple and low-carbon solutions”, declared the general manager, Yann Leriche, in a press release.

The effects of the European energy crisis were strongly felt in France last year, between supply shortages linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and maintenance operations on EDF’s nuclear reactors. .

Eurotunnel revenue reached €241 million in the first quarter, up 26% on the same period last year, including a contribution of €154 million from the Shuttle business Passengers.

The Eurostar company recorded a clear rebound with the number of passengers up 121% compared to the previous year, despite a context particularly penalized by social movements, said Getlink in a press release.

Getlink said it is confident in its ability to exceed its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) target of 910 million euros in 2023.
