(News Bulletin 247) – Vallourec announces that as part of a new test protocol, its VAM® 21 connections have been qualified up to a temperature of 350°C, thus offering ‘promising prospects for geothermal operators’.

‘Building on their R&D skills, Vallourec’s teams have adapted the existing reference systems to geothermal applications, relying on the one hand on industry standards and on the other hand on the expertise acquired in the field of oil and gas,” says Vallourec.

The company says the main benefit of operating the wells at higher temperatures is that the same process generates more energy.

‘When, for example, you double the temperature from 200°C to 400°C, you multiply by 10 the energy generated. Thus, the industry has enormous potential for designing and validating solutions allowing the construction of systems capable of reaching such levels’, emphasizes François Penven, Marketing & Development Manager for geothermal applications at Vallourec.
