(News Bulletin 247) – GlobalFoundries and STMicroelectronics announce today the conclusion of the agreement announced on July 11, 2022 concerning the creation of a new high-volume 300 mm semiconductor production unit which will be jointly operated in Crolles, near Grenoble.
“Together, we will deliver GlobalFoundries’ cutting-edge FDX technology and comprehensive ST technology roadmap in line with customer demand that is expected to remain strong in the automotive, IoT and mobile communications industries for decades to come,” said Dr. Thomas Caulfield, Managing Director of GlobalFoundries.
‘This new production unit will support our ambition of a turnover of 20 billion dollars and beyond’, underlines Jean-Marc Chéry, managing director of STMicroelectronics.
This program represents an overall cost estimated at 7.5 billion euros in investments, maintenance and related expenses.
The new unit will benefit from significant financial support from the French State. This aid, in line with the objectives set out in the EuropeanChips Act and part of the ‘France 2030’ plan, has recently received the approval of the European Commission.
