(News Bulletin 247) – Lockheed Martin announces that the Missile Defense Agency has awarded it three contracts for a maximum of two years, as part of the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) program.
In this context, Lockheed Martin will work with three small companies, Marotta Controls, Space Information Labs (SIL) and Valley Tech Systems (VTS) to strengthen the defense industrial base.
It’s part of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) ‘Mentor-Protégé’ program, which encourages prime contractors to serve as mentors in developing the technical and business capabilities of small businesses.
Thus, ‘we therefore oversee three different companies and support them throughout our NGI development’, summarizes Sarah Reeves, vice president of the NGI program at Lockheed Martin.
Lockheed Martin is already working with these companies as contractors to develop, mature and deploy hardware in support of the NGI program from advanced technologies cultivated through small business innovation research programs ( SBIR) and DOD Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR).
