(News Bulletin 247) – Alstom announces that its short-term emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as being ‘in line with the levels required to achieve the Paris Agreement objectives’ .
‘This external validation of our objectives attests to our strong and constant commitment to long-term energy and climate issues,’ emphasizes Cécile Texier, Vice-President of Sustainable Development and CSR at Alstom.
Alstom had updated its carbon targets after the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation in 2021, a transaction which had led to an extension of the scope and the bases of reference.
Now, the approved short-term goals are:
– reduce direct (scope 1) and indirect (scope 2) GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from its sites by 40% by 2030/31 compared to the 2021/22 baseline, in accordance with a trajectory of 1.5°C.
– reduce GHG emissions (scope 3) from the use of its rolling stock by 42% (raised compared to the previous objective of 35%) per passenger-km and 35% per ton-km by 2030/31, compared to a baseline of 2021/22.
