(News Bulletin 247) – After this step, the aircraft manufacturer’s business jet should soon enter service. This should also accelerate orders from Dassault Aviation.

Dassault Aviation’s Falcon 6X reaches a major milestone. The aircraft manufacturer’s business jet, which was unveiled in 2018 before making its maiden flight in March 2021, is now certified by the competent authorities in Europe and the United States.

The EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) today issued the certificate to the Falcon 6X, “resulting in its certification by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) on the same day”, the company announced in a press release on Tuesday.

This announcement paves the way for certification by other national aviation agencies. In addition, it “stabilizes the schedule for the entry into service of the Falcon 6X, the first examples of which are in the finishing phase”, added the company.

Orders to relaunch

If the exact date of entry into service of the Falcon 6X has therefore not been specified by Dassault Aviation, obtaining these certifications suggests that it is only a matter of a few months.

These green lights come at the right time as orders from Dassault Aviation in business jets, its second business with military aircraft, such as the Rafale, showed a clear blow in the first half.

When these results were published at the end of July, the company led by Eric Trappier indicated that it had garnered 12 Falcons over the first six months of the year, compared to 41 over the same period of 2022, which had certainly been prosperous.

Eric Trappier had explained that this market was suffering from fears about the economic situation, particularly in North America. In addition, China “has fallen asleep a bit”, he added.

“Since the end of the year there has been a fear of recession […] which may worry the business aviation market, which is a thermometer of the economy. I think there were a lot of questions at the beginning of the year because of inflation, with central bank interest rates suddenly “rising, he had developed. when money is expensive there is less investment,” he continued.

Trade catalyst

Although these orders were “weak”, the Stifel bank was optimistic “The economic environment has clearly had an impact but it is probably also the result of the wait-and-see attitude of customers”, she underlined at the end of July, adding that as soon as the 6X is “certified (normally this summer), orders should pick up again.”

Certification of the 6X could therefore reinvigorate Dassault Aviation’s commercial dynamic in business aviation.

In any case, for the time being, its action benefits a little from this announcement, the title taking 1.6% shortly before 11am.

In addition to the 6X, Dassault Aviation’s Falcon 10X, which was unveiled in May 2021, is also expected to provide order support over the next few years. This new aircraft should be in service by the end of 2025.
