(News Bulletin 247) – Eni announces that today it has started oil and gas production in the Baleine field, located in the offshore waters of Côte d’Ivoire. The operator specifies that this is the first emission-free production project – Scope 1 and 2 – in Africa.
Baleine is currently the largest hydrocarbon discovery in the Ivorian sedimentary basin.
For the initial phase, production is carried out via the Baleine FPSO, a renovated and modernized floating production, storage and offloading unit, capable of processing up to 15,000 barrels/day of oil and approximately 25 Mscf/d ( million standard cubic feet per day) of associated gas.
The start of phase 2 is expected by the end of 2024 and will bring production from the field to 50,000 bpd of oil and approximately 70 Mscf/d of associated gas. The third phase of development aims to increase production from the field to 150,000 b/d of oil and 200 Mscf/d of gas.
All gas production from the Baleine field during this and subsequent development phases will be delivered ashore via a newly constructed pipeline.
