PARIS (Reuters) – The New York Stock Exchange opened slightly lower on Friday, with indices eroding after rebounding sharply following the Federal Reserve’s decision.
In early trading, the Dow Jones index lost 47.04 points, or 0.11%, to 41,978.15 points, and the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 fell 0.15% to 5,705.15 points.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.07%, or 12.97 points, to 18,001.014.
Markets rebounded on Thursday after the Fed’s decision to cut rates by 50 basis points, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones closing at record highs.
Markets are now waiting for the next indicators to refine their understanding of the state of the American economy.
With no data due on Friday, comments from Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker are likely to liven up trading.
In stocks, Nike gained 7.5% after announcing that a successor to its chairman and CEO would join the group on October 14.
FedEx fell 13.4% after reporting a sharp drop in quarterly revenue on Thursday. Rival UPS declined 3.2%.
