Washington (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum for customs duties on Friday that, like France or Canada, take taxes from the revenues of American technological giants, so -called “GAFA”, know an American official.

Another official said that the Republican President asked his administration to take measures to “fight taxes on digital services, fines, practices and policies that foreign governments impose on American companies”.

“President Trump will not allow foreign governments to appropriate the tax base of America for their benefit,” he added.

The memorandum asks the Office of the American Representative (USTR) to reopen surveys on digital services launched during the first mandate of Donald Trump, and to extend them to any other country that would have recourse to such taxes for ” Discriminate against American companies, “said the manager.

Donald Trump said last week that he planned to take measures against France and Canada for taxes that the two countries have levied from the revenues of American technological giants.

The French Parliament adopted in July 2019, in the first presidential mandate of Donald Trump, a law providing to tax the income of companies which achieve turnover on their digital activities of at least 750 million of 3% euros worldwide and more than 25 million euros in France.

Thirty companies were to be concerned, most of them American, which had then prompted Donald Trump to threaten France with reprisals.
