(Reuters) – American president Donald Trump urged his main advisers to adopt a more aggressive position on customs duties before April 2, the scheduled date of their entry into force, the Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing four people close to the file.

Despite the calls of its allies to Wall Street and the Capitol to adopt a more measured approach, Donald Trump is pressure in favor of radical commercial measures aimed at reshaping the American economy, according to the American daily.

The White House did not respond to a request for comments immediately.

Donald Trump would regret not having implemented greater customs duties during his first mandate and criticized his advisers for having persuaded him for going back, reports the Washington Post. But it is certain that the idea of ​​a universal customs right is seriously envisaged.

On Friday, the American president said he was open to agreements with countries seeking to avoid customs duties, but that negotiations would only begin after the entry into force of reciprocal customs duties on April 2.
