Cite du Vatican (Reuters) -The body of Pope Francis has been exhibited since Wednesday morning at the Saint -Pierre basilica for a last tribute to the sovereign pontiff who died on Monday morning.
The body of the bishop of Rome, who died at the age of 88, walked between the chapel of the Sainte-Marthe house and the Saint-Pierre basilica during a long procession punctuated by a celebration chaired by Cardinal Camerlingue Kevin Farrell.
Bringing together thousands of faithful and curious, queues were formed early this Wednesday around the Vatican. They will be able to meditate there until Friday evening, the day before the pope’s funeral.
At least 200,000 people should attend the funeral, predicts the Italian Civil Protection Head, Fabio Ciciliano, quoted by the Corriere della will be.
The conclave, assembly bringing together the cardinals responsible for electing the successor of the deceased pope, should not be held before May 6, the day when French Catholics celebrate Holy Prudence.
Nothing allows to date to establish a prognosis on the name of the one who will sit on the throne of the smallest state in the world. However, some risk evoking the names of the Philippin Luis Antonio Tagle, or the Italian Pietro Parolin, secretary of state out of the Holy See.
