Frankfurt (Reuters) – The German Basf chemistry giant reaffirmed its profit forecast on Friday for the year 2025, while warning that the prospects were marked by a strong uncertainty due to the customs duties of the United States and any retaliatory measures of other countries.

“Upcoming developments will largely depend on commercial policy decisions taken by the United States and its business partners. Reliable quantification of the Impact on the world economy is not possible at present,” Basf said in a press release.

The group reiterated its objective of a profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and depreciation (EBITDA) for the year 2025, adjusted exceptional elements, between 8 billion euros and 8.4 billion euros.

Net profit dropped by 41% to 808 million euros over the first three months of the year, weighed down by a loss of sale previously estimated at around 300 million euros, following the sale of a participation in a wind energy project.
