MELBOURNE (Reuters) – The director general of Rio Tinto Jakob Stausholm will leave his duties during the year, once his successor has been appointed, the mining giant announced Thursday, adding that it has already started the process of selecting a new manager.

Jakob Stausholm had taken the continuation of French in 2020 Jean-Sébastien Jacques, while the group faced a lively controversy in Australia after the destruction, during the expansion of an iron ore, an aboriginal archaeological site of 46,000 years old.

He will remain at the head of the company until the appointment of a successor.

“A rigorous selection process is already underway, under the direction of the appointment committee,” said Rio Tinto in a press release published on the London Stock Exchange.

Among the candidates for the post of managing director, are the current commercial director Bold Baatar, the leader of the Division of the iron ore Simon Trott and that of the aluminum activity Jérôme Pécresse, husband of the president of the Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse.

According to investors, Rio Tinto could also select external candidates, but he risks being in competition with BHP whose managing director Mike Henry is also given on the start this year.
