Berlin (Reuters) – Volkswagen and its Chinese partner Saic will close the factory they have jointly in Nanjing, China, reports the German economic daily Handelsblatt on Friday.
Production on the site has already been stopped and the factory will be closed gradually during the second half of the year, specifies Handelsblatt, citing several people familiar with the process.
Volkswagen did not immediately respond to a request for a comment from Reuters.
In September, Reuters reported that the automaker planned to stop production in his Nanjing factory, citing a person with direct knowledge of the file.
The German group then planned to gradually transfer the production of Passat family vehicles to a neighboring factory located in the same province, according to this person.
Volkswagen, who has long dominated the Chinese market, suffers from a decline in the country and works with Saic and other partners, such as Xpeng, to market new models that he hopes more competitive.
