(Reuters) – The New York Stock Exchange opened on Friday as investors analyze a series of financial results and before a crucial week for the markets, the deadline of August 1 set by the American president to sign commercial agreements with its partners approaching.

In the first exchanges, the Dow Jones index earns 85.78 points, or 0.19%, at 44,779.69 points and the Standard & Poor’s 500, wider, increased from 0.14% to 6,371.96 points.

The Nasdaq Composite takes 0.05%, or 9.41 points, at 21,067.37 points.

This Friday, investors focus their attention on results and on commercial negotiations.

The European Union (EU), which approved Thursday a set of retaliatory measures up to 93 billion euros targeting American products in the absence of a commercial agreement with Washington, would be close to an agreement which would provide for basic customs duties of 15% on imported European products.

In addition, the tenant of the White House continued to put pressure on the president of the American Federal Reserve (Fed), Jerome Powell, to lower rates after a visit to the Central Bank on Thursday, although he said that he did not intend to dismiss him, as he often hinted.

The American president said Friday had a good meeting with Jerome Powell and had the impression that the latter could be ready to lower interest rates.

Next week, the deadline set by Donald Trump for commercial negotiations on August 1, should put pressure to reach agreements. The Fed monetary policy decision and Amazon, Apple, Meta and Microsoft ‘results will also be on the market menu.

At the values, Tesla took 1.90% after Business Insider reported on Friday, citing an internal note, that the group is preparing to launch its Robotaxis service in San Francisco this weekend.

Intel abandoned 8.37% after announcing higher quarterly losses than expected and warning against a possible exit from its foundry activity, despite the recovery plans of the new LIP-BU TAN Director.
